Awakening

It all started with the first sound of my girlfriend's alarm clock. At that moment i realized, that i had been dreaming. We were rebuilding our bathroom, tearing down walls there, building up new walls elsewhere. I was holding a jackhammer in my hands, pounding bricks. A young man in military uniform was standing next to me, holding up the wall i was hammering. I knew he was here because he got imposed to work at this place. I asked him what he had done. He said that he had violated direct orders because he didn't agree with them. He refused to adhere and so got punished with this task. I looked at him but didn't say a word and so We continued to work, silently.

...

The second sound of the alarm clock brought me back again from sleep, made my dream become thoughts within a dream. I began to wonder about what he had said. Why hadn't he obeyed the commands? What had him take that step out of the order? Was it good what he had done? Or rather bad? Now my mind began to budge; Isn't to disobey sometimes not a very important trait of human strength? That we are right-minded to obey commands but on the other hand that people still break the rules, break out of the order and disobey? And isn't it important in this sense to understand these characteristics, or should i rather say qualities, of the human race? The qualities that made us step out of the caves and enabled us to fly into the space and watch the Earth from hundred million miles away?

...

I'm fading out the noises coming from the bathroom. Urging back into my dreamy thoughts. Oh yes, i believe that there is no development without variance from the normal, no evolution without mutation from the common. And i believe that we need the order for our existence, but we also need a little bit of chaos so we do not stand still and stay forever what we are now. We need the order of a society to be able to live together but we also need the dissidents, the rule-breakers, the troublemakers, the other thinking people.
Don't We?

...

Silence; No third sound of the alarm clock. But I'm awake. And i will get up now. Time has come to break some rules.
